President
Haochen (he/him) is a fourth-year student in the astrophysics division studying cosmology using the CHIME telescope. Originally from Wuhu, China, Haochen spent his undergraduate years at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles before coming to MIT. Outside research, Haochen enjoys playing the piano and singing in choirs.
Lisa Lin

Vice President of Socials
Lisa (she/hers) is from the Chicago suburbs and stayed there through her undergrad at UChicago, then finally decided to get out of Illinois for grad school, where she studies biological active matter. In her free time, she enjoys playing the clarinet, knitting, and cooking/baking.
Cian Roche
A photo of Cian Roche
GAGA Co-leader
Cian is a second-year student in the astrophysics division who uses computers to constrain dark matter, via things like simulations, statistics and machine learning. Being originally from Ireland, he’s still excited about the snow when it comes around. He likes reptiles, insects, playing music, and above all else: the Boston Bruins.
Kyle DeBry

GAGA Co-leader
Kyle DeBry is a third year PhD student in physics working with Isaac Chuang and John Chiaverini on trapped ion quantum computing. For PGSC, Kyle is one of three co-leaders of the Grads Advising Grad Admissions committee (GAGA) which works to make the admissions process more accessible and equitable.
Lisa Drummond
GAGA Co-leader
Salvatore Pace

Colloquium Committee Representative
Sal is a 2nd year living in the interface of CMT and HET and is interested in emergent phenomena in quantum matter/quantum field theory. Outside of dreaming about physics, Sal enjoys punk and metal music, is passionate about binge-watching youtube, and loves everything coffee-related (aka has a crippling coffee addiction).
Kai-Feng Chen
Colloquium Lunch Chair
Andre Fonseca

Colloquium Lunch Chair
André (he/him) is a 2nd year graduate student interested in photonics, many-body physics and all things topology. Originally from Arizona, he lived most of his life in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, up until going to Cornell for undergrad. In his free time he enjoys watching movies and talking about cinema, reading and exploring the Boston area.
Meredith Neyer

Career Chair
Meredith (she/her) is a second year graduate student in astrophysics studying the Epoch of Reionization using simulations. She is originally from the Bay Area in California and went to UC Santa Barbara for her undergraduate education. When not working on physics, Meredith can be found spending time with friends, tap dancing, and/or hanging out with her cat, Pumpkin.
Atakan Firat
A photo of Atakan Firat
Friday Social Chair
Atakan is a fourth year graduate student working on string theory. He is endemic to CTP and you can encounter him there while he is giving a tirade on one of the following topics if he is not working: brutalist architecture, the recent direction Tame Impala has taken, the best bike trips around Boston, and why Earl Grey is vastly superior to any other caffeine product.
Michelle Chong

Friday Social Chair
Michelle is in her second year in the atomic physics division. She works with atoms in optical cavities. Although a Massachusetts native, she ventured out for college and spent four lovely years in Chicago. Her favorite color is red for food and blue for everything else. In her free time, she likes to read, dance, and wear her tote bag everywhere.
Devin Becker

Cookie/Pie Social Chair
Devin (they/she) is a second year graduate student in astrophysics developing theoretical models for black hole orbits near galactic centers and the gravitational waves they emit. Originally from the Chicagoland area, Devin enjoys hiking and exploring, creating visual art, and obsessing over films like Dune (2021) in their free time. Devin is passionate about cannoli access, a topic they plan to bring to the forefront during their reign as Cookie/Pie Social Chair.
Alex Yelland
Cookie/Pie Social Chair
Joheen Chakraborty

Faculty Breakfast Chair
Joheen is a first-year student in the astrophysics division working on X-ray observations of black hole accretion. Originally from New Jersey, his hobbies include playing video games, skiing, and taking walks in the park. Follow him on Twitter @joheenc!
Daniel Mark

Faculty Breakfast Chair
Daniel is a third-year graduate student interested in quantum chaos, and more broadly, the intersection of quantum information and condensed matter theory. Originally from Singapore, his current interests include coffee, runs, and learning to dance.
Patrick Oare

Athletics Chair
Patrick is a third year graduate student in the CTP studying lattice QCD. Originally from New Jersey, he’s an avid player of ice hockey and tennis and is always interested in trying new sports. He also enjoys reading, biking, and exploring the Cambridge / Boston area.
Laurel White

Treasurer
Laurel (she/her) is a second-year in astro studying observations of galaxy clusters. She hails from Upstate New York (which is nowhere near NYC), where she did her undergrad at Syracuse University. A large portion of her apartment is dedicated to fiber crafting supplies.
Carter Turnbaugh

Website Manager/Tech Chair
Carter (he) is a second year graduate student in AMO working with a fermionic quantum gas microscope to explore the 2D Fermi-Hubbard model (and variations). Carter grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and attended UC Berkeley for his undergraduate studies; he is gradually adapting to weather. Outside of lab, Carter enjoys various forms of science fiction, cooking, and playing with his cat Sophie, who shares Carter’s passion for the O part of AMO.
